Literary journey around the world – Mr Gandy's Grand Tour by Alan Titchmarsh

Join us on our monthly literary journeys from North Korea to Cuba and from Newfoundland to Australia.

We are an international group of people of different ages from all over the world: Colombia, Russia, Italy, Syria, Great Britain, Germany and Switzerland. Our book club meets regularly, ideally every first Thursday of the month (at 6.30 pm) to discuss a book that we have read the month before. The selection of books by international authors allows us to immerse into foreign cultures, customs and life situations. The multicultural background of our members greatly enriches the discussions. The club language is English, and although your spoken English does not have to be perfect, a minimum B2 level is required to read the books in question. The focus of our get-togethers is on exchange, mutual understanding and dialog. The evening session is led by an experienced professional ELT teacher and avid reader who will help steer the conversation, clarify uncertainties or misunderstandings, correct errors and pronunciation.

Timothy Gandy has kept his lifetime's ambition secret for forty years. Now, suddenly (if tragically) released from the hen-pecked tedium of his ordinary existence, he is unexpectedly free to realize his dreams. He will embark on a Grand Tour of Europe, following in the footsteps of the aristocrats of the eighteenth century. He anticipates high art, culture and pleasant weather. He never expected to encounter new friendships - and possibly even love - along the way. It seems that Mr Gandy has embarked on the journey of a lifetime...

Our next session will be on 7th September 2017 about the book The Salt Road by Jane Johnson by Garcia Marquez.
